![]() ![]() Once you’ve filled the shape, go onto the next. These pieces look not unlike Tetris pieces and (apart from rotating them) you have to position them within the shape on screen until they are all used and no empty space remains. In fact, you are presented with a blank geometic shape (or object) and you have to fill that shape completely using several pieces that are at your disposal. Now hear me out… it’s not as monotonous as it might sound. In essence, Doodle Fit presents the players with a series of jigsaw puzzles. Doodle Fit, from Gamelion, falls rather nicely into that category and offers players a rather unusual mash-up of games in the process. As someone with a family and other commitments, I generally don’t have time for elongated gaming sessions so I often look for games that I can play in short bursts but ones that are still able to provide me with satisfying and entertaining gameplay. Computers and consoles weren’t able to offer ultra-realistic visuals, orchestral scores nor had the physical capacity to provide gamers with movie-like experiences when it came to storytelling so we had to rely on our imaginations when it came to fleshing out characters and what was happening to them but more often than not, the storylines were disregarded in favour of the games themselves.īeing honest, as a gamer there are times when I really miss those days. ![]() Back in the 80s all of that was secondary to what really mattered – gameplay. While many of the younger gamers will insist that games need a strong story line and immersive graphics and sound to ensure that high quality games are produced, I am adamant that these are all secondary. I’ve lost count of the number of empassioned discussions that I have had with gamers about what makes a good game. ![]() ![]() Once your film has been scanned and optimised - create a low resolution image for viewing from the high resolution archival image and at that point, you may then choose to get rid of your film. These digital images may then be colour corrected, contrast adjusted, and further enhanced using the likes of Photoshop or Lightroom. Its always better to have too large a file rather than too small! Many of these images are now over 20 years old and some have lost detail and have become more grainy. many are picking up a magenta tint) and for sure lost some saturation. Most noticeable is the colour shift (e.g. Even our stock photo film archives have definitely deteriorated over the past 25-30 years. However, most casual photographers used regular color slide and negative film which was processed with quick and easy mini-labs, and stuck in cheap plastic sleeves. It has been around since the 1930’s and there are reports of 50 year old Kodachrome looking like the day it was shot. Kodachrome slide film had an additive-type film emulsion where the color dye was in the development chemicals, not on the film itself. B&W film is basically silver crystals on an emulsion and as historical photos will prove, if developed and stored properly they may last decades. Of the most common films once available, B&W negative and Kodachrome slide film are perhaps the least affected by age. Not only are storage conditions important – yet the original film medium used impacts its life span too.ĭegradation of colour, contrast and dynamic range is always happening… just faster with some films than others. The life span of film depends greatly on the care in storing and handling it… the two greatest enemies are significant temperature variations and either extremely high or low humidity. Act fast and get them scanned and saved digitally - else your photo records/art/documentation will fade into just memories. UPDATE (2021): This is among our most popular articles - and film remains the same… yet, each year your treasures contained on it are fading. Fluctuations in intensity are a result of the interference of light emitted separately from the surface of the star - visible as a pattern of light dots in the images produced - and allow conclusions to be drawn about the size of the object that is observed.Īs paths of light in curved space tend to converge or diverge much more frequently than in flat space, the size of the dots changes depending on the curvature. The fluctuations in light intensity measured by the two telescopes are then compared. In this measurement technique, two telescopes are set up some distance apart and focused on the star that is to be examined. In their work the researchers studied intensity interferometry, pioneered by the English physicists Robert Hanbury Brown and Richard Twiss, which is used to determine the size of stars that are close to the sun. When transferred to astronomical observations, this means that light that reaches us from far away stars carries valuable information about the space that it has travelled through. Conversely, it is also possible to learn about the curvature of a surface itself by analysing the propagation of light. By changing the curvature of the surface it is possible to control the propagation of light. As the light propagated it behaved in the same way that it does when deflected by huge masses. To do so they captured light in a small area close to the surface of a specially made object and forced it to follow the course of the surface. The researchers examined the effects of this intrinsic curvature of space on the propagation of light in their experiment. The curvature of the surface of a sphere is an intrinsic property that can't be changed and has an effect on geometry and physics inside this two-dimensional surface.' 'A well known example of this is world maps that always show the surface in a distorted way. 'For example, while you can easily unfold a cylinder or a cone into a flat sheet of paper, it is impossible to lay the surface of a sphere out flat on a table without tearing or at least distorting it,' says Vincent Schultheiß, a doctoral candidate at FAU and lead author of the study. ![]() However, not all curved surfaces are the same. Instead of changing all four dimensions of spacetime, they reduced the problem to two dimensions and studied the propagation of light along curved surfaces. Ulf Peschel from Friedrich Schiller University Jena used a special trick to examine the propagation of light in such curved spaces in the laboratory. In this curved space, celestial bodies and light move along geodesics, the shortest paths between two points, which often look anything but straight when viewed from the outside. According to Einstein's general theory of relativity, gravity can be described as the curvature of four-dimensional spacetime. ![]() ![]() LG InstaView gets its name from the refrigerator’s chameleon-like panel in the door that can be transformed into a transparent window with just two knocks on the glass. ![]() It is also VERY important to understand the difference between local storage and cloud/NAS storage. This is exactly what today’s article is about and today I want to talk to you guys about how to move over from Google photos onto your own NAS drive, how each brand handles your photo collection and what the benefits are of Synology and QNAP when making the switch. ![]() However, this is far more of a short-term solution and eventually, this rather meagre annual subscription capacity will also be maximized, as well as the inevitable likelihood that you are going to either, have to pay Google monthly forever or buy hardware to store your photos eventually. Google is inviting users to purchase monthly and annual subscription services to the larger cloud storage capacities ranging from £1.79 to £79.99 with higher prices for business users. When the Google photos limitation begins, there is every possibility that your Gmail will no longer function to receive emails and attachments until you delete photos from your Google drive that have suddenly accounted towards your total capacity. Most users have a free subscription, between 2GB and 50GB of storage included with their Android device (depending on model and brand). When the Google photo limitation comes into effect, all of your backed-up photos will be counted as part of your overall storage. ![]() For a start, your Google cloud account is actually used by numerous other services such as Google Drive file management and the even more important Gmail service. However at the start of 2021, Google will no longer allow unlimited photo backups from mobile devices and although the current photos that you have backed up will be safe, there are serious long-term repercussions that Android phone users should be aware of. Till recently, if you were an Android phone user, you never really had to worry about the photos on your phone filling your capacity as android would periodically tell you that you can backup your photos to your personal cloud and free up space on your device. Since the new update, you can now view the information for any photo or video you like.Making the Switch from Google Photos to NASĪs many of you might know, Google has recently announced a change in its policy of allowing Android phone users to be able to backup up their photos without limits to their respective Google Cloud accounts. However, this method only lets you view and delete the top storage hogs as determined by Google. This function will only show you media that count against your storage quota anything uploaded under a previous free storage option won’t show up here as deleting those wouldn’t release any storage space anyway. If you’re running low on space, you can use Google’s storage management functions to find and delete any large photos and videos you may no-longer need. Depending on the storage plan in effect when your photos were uploaded, they may or may not contribute to your overall Google One storage quota. Google Photos lets you manage your storage space by allowing you to choose the upload size of your photos and videos. This new update supplements Google’s existing storage management options, for which I’ve provided a quick reminder below: ![]() I appreciated the chic style of my suite, considerably spacious for a Manhattan hotel. The effect is often like wiping clean a dirty window. This would make it easier to select the specific images you want to edit.Ĭorel has included Perfectly Clear technology that automatically adjusts lighting at the pixel level. The improvement I would add to this approach is the ability to scale the thumbnails bigger when viewing them via the Open File command. AfterShot did, however, create XMP files with the editing instructions and added them to the same directory as the original raw files.Ĭombine this approach with a robust set of image editing tools, and AfterShot could prove handy for shooters on tight deadlines who need a lot flexibility in how they work. I edited the raw files, then saved them to a different location. I tried all of these scenarios, including accessing images on my Pogoplug drive, and it worked great. By using the Open File command, you can browse files on the memory card, connected hard drive, or even a network drive. Let’s say after a photo shoot you want to quickly deliver a few samples to the client, but don’t necessarily want to catalog the entire project. Where the AfterShot gets interesting is when you don’t really want to import the entire set of images, but rather choose a few, edit them, then save them out to another location. At this point you can manage the images in a similar manner that you would with other pro apps. Then you enable the Import Photos from Folder command to add them to an AfterShot catalog. First, you copy to files from a memory card to your Mac or an external hard drive. If you want the same results with AfterShot, It requires two steps. Lightroom and Aperture, for example, provide a robust importing tool that streamlines the transfer process. IPhoto, Aperture, and Lightroom users who are used to working in a more structured environment. But it may feel cumbersome if you want to establish an efficient workflow for an entire shoot. You are free to access your photos in existing folders, on a network or on a memory card.” This works well if you want to focus on a few specific photos. You don’t really import images into AfterShot instead, you point the application to where they reside.Ĭorel says that, “Unlike other workflow tools, AfterShot Pro does not force you to import your images into a catalog just to work with them.
